Guided and commented tour "In the heart of the cathedral of commerce, the secrets of Spring"
157 years ago, in 1865, the department store “Au Printemps” was born. Created by Jules and Augustine Jaluzot, a visionary couple, in a neighborhood still peripheral and not very commercial, it imposes itself as a brand with an original identity: «In Spring, everything is new, fresh and pretty like the title: Au Printemps».
Rebuilt in 1882 by Paul Sédille and considered by historians as the prototype of the modern department store, Printemps inspired the "cathedral of commerce" described by Zola in "Au Bonheur des Dames", published the following year.
During the weekend of the European Heritage Days, we invite you to discover exclusively my most hidden secrets and behind the scenes of Printemps Haussmann. From a private terrace with panoramic views of the roofs of Paris to the "7e Ciel", from the monumental grilles recently restored to the underground where artisans and technicians are active, from the "floating stairs" to the majestic Wybo with dazzling stained glass windows, The department store will reveal itself like you’ve never seen it.
The exhibition "It all began in Spring" will also allow you to immerse yourself in its archives, and to follow year after year the revolutions of commerce, but also of lifestyles and consumption.
