The construction of the Pavillon de la Muette has come a long way since the last edition of the Journées du Patrimoine. Classified as a historical monument on April 7, 1921.
The Pavillon de la Muette is a hunting lodge built for Louis XV on the plans of Ange Jacques Gabriel between 1765 and 1775 in a neoclassical style. It stands on the site of the first castle of François I, in the middle of a large hunting crossroads in the north of the forest.
Larger than most contemporary pavilions, it includes a large “Italian-style” lounge, with an octagonal shape and a height of more than 7 metres, opening on all sides on forest paths. But the room of officers of the hunts, whose scenery is complete, has perhaps even more charm, while one remains surprised by the extent of the underground kitchens in stone. After a very long abandonment, the Pavillon de la Muette began a long-term restoration. A naked monument, it reveals the tricks and fragilities of the construction of «eighteenth follies».
