Guided tour of the heritage of the church district
On the occasion of the 39th European Heritage Days, the City of Saint-Ouen l'Aumône is offering a visit to the historic heritage of the church district. Enjoy a guided walk to discover the church of Saint-Ouen, built in the 11th century and classified as a historical monument since 1947. It follows a chapel built in the 7th century to commemorate the passage of the funeral procession of the bishop of Saint-Ouen to his episcopal city of Rouen. This church with mainly Gothic architecture is surrounded by the old cemetery of the city. The walk will then take you to Le Nôtre Park, whose layout and geometric shapes are reminiscent of King Louis XIV’s French-style gardens. Its gardens are characterized by geometric lines and shapes, as well as a symmetrical composition. Finally, the visit provides a passage through the pigeon house of the city, now closed to the public. Dating from the first half of the 17th century, this dovecote depended on the castle of Saint-Ouen. Its interior walls were lined with about 1,800 boulins, each of which could accommodate a couple of pigeons. Information and registration on the city’s website: www.ville-soa.fr
