Guided tour of the National Domain of Meudon
We propose you an 1h30 walk dedicated to the former Royal Domain of Meudon through the ages. Led by a lecturer from the Meudon Museum of Art and History or the Comité de Sauvegarde des sites de Meudon, the tour takes place in several stages:
La Grande Terrasse. From the top of the terrace, a magnificent view of Paris and the forests of Meudon and Clamart opens up to you. You can also admire the Green Carpet, a large flow of green grass that once corresponded to the gardens of the Meudon Castle. We comment (without having access to it) on the Observatory, built in 1885 on the ruins of the Château-Neuf, which had itself been installed at the Place de la Grotte in 1706.
The buildings, remains of the castle, still preserved. You will have access to places usually not open to the public such as the Orangerie, the Bastion and the Cool Room. From October to March, the orange trees of the parks of Meudon, Saint-Cloud and Tuileries spend the winter there, allowing the building to perpetuate its primary function.
And finally you can reach, if you wish, the museum rooms dedicated to the history of the Royal Domain. You can admire paintings and engravings that adorned the castles of Meudon as well as 3D models and reconstructions.
