Come and take advantage of guided tours to discover the history of the Crédit Municipal de Paris (former Mont-de-Pité)!
The Crédit Municipal is the oldest financial institution in Paris: founded in 1777 and located in the heart of the Marais, it is modelled on the Monte di Pietà created in 1462 in Perugia, Italy. Its primary purpose was to fight poverty by allowing the poorest to escape usurers through the pawn system. After developing a range of new services, the establishment is now at the crossroads of the banking, social and solidarity economy and art worlds.
The place also has a rich history: there are among others remains of the enclosure of Philippe-Auguste, constructions dating from the eighteenth and nineteenth century...and for the Heritage Days, the institution will present the registers of secret engagements, containing the names of the many personalities who passed through the Parisian Mont-de-Painty during the 19th century!

Crédit Municipal, a public administrative credit and social assistance institution of the City of Paris, offers a range of simple and flexible solidarity services adapted to the needs of each individual. Created in 1637 by philanthropist Théophraste Renaudot and located in the heart of the Marais since 1777, its primary vocation was to fight against usury by offering a pawnshop service. Throughout the centuries, the Crédit Municipal de Paris has retained this first activity while developing a wide range of new services around the object (auctions, conservation and expertise of art objects) and in the field of solidarity finance (personal microcredit, support for over-indebted people, solidarity savings). Today, it is a key player in social and solidarity finance at the service of Parisians and Franciliens.
