Today, one of the major European rehabilitation centers and geriatric structure unique in France, this hospital is an example of Napoleon III hospital architecture: the Saint-Sauveur chapel of neo-Government stylearchitect Marcellin Vera’s novel and the galleries that frame the courtyards.

Built in 1863, this fine example of Second Empire hospital architecture has been completely refurbished. The principle of courtyards and galleries providing good ventilation (in accordance with hygienist theories of the time) has been safeguarded, as well as the old chapel Saint-Sauveur, with remarkable painted and sculpted decoration. The hospital is today a geriatric structure unique in France and one of the largest European rehabilitation centres.
