The Ministry of Higher Education and Research opened the Boncourt Pavilion to the public, an area occupied by the École Polytechnique before its transfer to Palaiseau in 1976. The new Ministry of Research was established there in 1981. The site now houses the services of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research. The site Descartes, heart of the visit, includes the Pavillon Boncourt, Hotel of the Minister of Higher Education and Research, the garden, as well as its office whose windows overlook the library of social anthropology founded by Claude Lévi-Strauss at the Collège de France.
