Completely restored, after two years of work, the church of Saint-Ayoul retains a very rich furniture classified as historical monuments of the sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, and interesting painted coatings of the eleventh, twelfth, thirteenth, fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.

The Abbey of Saint-Ayoul dates back to the eleventh century (charter of foundation dated 1048). The monastery develops on the southern flank of the church. It was first rebuilt after the fire of 1157\. A large choir was erected in 1280 at the site of the south apsidiol. The transept of the church dates from the twelfth century; the ancient chapter room of the abbey of the thirteenth century. Between 1753 and 1763, the west and south wings of the abbey were rebuilt. During the Revolution, the priory was sold in lots. The east wing of the cloister is transformed into houses, the choir serves as a pyre, storage and shed. Part of the building is used for military handling. The ownership of part of the church (formerly owned by the State, Ministry of Culture) was transferred to the municipality on 1 January 2007\. Surrounded by a cemetery, archaeological research was carried out there until 2005 to better understand the medieval funeral rites but also the demography of the city. Completely
