Inaugurated by General de Gaulle in April 1962, the memorial on the tip of the City, is one of the two remarkable achievements of the architect. Georges-Henri Pingusson (1894 - 1978) marked by his architecture and his words, generations. A charismatic figure, he is one of the last personalities of the French modernist movement. Throughout his life, he has marked his constructions and creations with an artistic commitment and an intelligent and complex approach to space. Both an architectural lesson and a place of remembrance, the Martyrs of the Deportation Memorial testifies to the culture and sensitivity of its designer.

Designed by architect Pingusson at the tip of the Ile de la Cité, the Memorial of the Martyrs of the Deportation perpetuates the memory of the 200,000 French victims of the deportation. It was in 1953 that the Réseau du Souvenir decided to erect a memorial in memory of the 200,000 French deportees. The choice is made of a Memorial practically invisible from the outside, similar to a funerary slab and developing in the basement. It is designed by the architect Pingusson, close to the avant-garde architects, and who distinguished himself in the reconstruction of cities devastated during the war. The very expressive architecture of the Memorial aims to translate the hell of deportation. It includes a crypt with a gallery lined with glass facets; the play of materials and symbols, especially around the triangle, is particularly marked. The inauguration by General de Gaulle took place on 12 April 1962\. Every year the Memorial is part of the ceremonies of the National Day of Remembrance of
