About Hubert Jappelle:
After studying at the Beaux-Arts de Nancy, Hubert Jappelle founded his company in Avignon. With André Benedetto, he is one of the founders of the Festival Off d'Avignon. He became known for his research on puppetry, focusing on the staging of dramatic works (Beckett, Ionesco, Strindberg, Shakespeare, Kafka, Molière).
The history of the Factory Theatre:
At the beginning of the 1980s, Hubert Jappelle decided to create his own theatre in Éragny-sur-Oise, in an old stationery put at his disposal. The company welcomed audiences for the first time in 1981 with the production of Sophocle’s Antigone. It was in 1984, when Hubert Jappelle decided to carry out a regular activity there, that the Théâtre de l'Usine was really born.
The Théâtre de l'Usine was founded in 1980 by Hubert Jappelle, and has a 200-seat theatre, a rehearsal hall, a bar and a set storage room.

After spending nearly 20 years in Avignon, the Hubert Jappelle company established itself in Cergy-Pontoise in 1978\. It was in a former paper mill, in Eragny-sur-Oise, that he founded the Théâtre de l'Usine in 1980 in the middle of an industrial wasteland. It was then planned to repeat the shows performed elsewhere including at the Centre d'animation culturelle (today Scène Nationale de Cergy-Pontoise). It was in February 1981 that the theatre welcomed the public for the first time on an exceptional basis, on the occasion of the second Biennale of Cergy-Pontoise puppet theatres. Thanks to this «precedent», after having made it conform to safety standards, it is finally possible in 1983 to open definitively to the public this unusual place. It was not until 1987 that Hubert Jappelle decided to carry out a regular public activity there. It is from this moment that the «impossible» adventure really begins. The very bold project linked in principle an artistic research, a theoretical refl
