On the track of mammoths

The history of the mammoth’s ancestors goes back about 50 million years. This long evolutionary path that will lead to the mammoth species will be presented in the form of panels, complete or partial skeletons, and accompanied by numerous fossils of animals of the megafauna of the Pleistocene. The mammoth was the source of countless possibilities for our Palaeolithic ancestors. Source of food, materials suitable for the construction of habitats... But also the use of materials such as ivory in prehistoric sculpture and parietal art. This Man/mammoth interaction will be presented by a large number of objects (replicas) Venus, various objects, antropomorph statuette ... Many quizzes will allow young people to familiarize themselves with the history of this mythical animal.

A priory founded in 908, dependent on the Benedictine abbey of Saint-Lomer de Blois, converted into a farm in the 17th century, its original proportions can easily be found again. The main entrance preserves remains of constructions of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries (columns, vaults...). Solid foothills to the west support a two-storey claustral building, composed of various eras. The church is of a very old construction. It retains from its Romanesque origin only the proportions. The nave has long served as a barn and housing choir. It remains one of the few churches with raised Romanesque choir. The protrusion of his bell tower lowered to the rampant roof marks the place he occupied when he called the monks to prayer. Further to the south was the cemetery of the monks and an old guardhouse or a porter’s lodge.
