In 1956, Father Joseph Wresinski came to live among the 250 families reunited by poverty in a camp established in Noisy-le-Grand following the winter of 1954\. Immediately, he took innovative initiatives to concretize the rejection of the misery that he had carried in himself since his childhood in great poverty. He is convinced that this refusal is shared, first and foremost by those who suffer misery, and also by all who come to discover it. Newly classified "Historical Monument" and labeled "Heritage of the twentieth century", the chapel was built during the year 1957 by Father Wresinski and inhabitants of the camp of the homeless (non-believers, and believers: Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Christians). Its architecture is reminiscent of the "igloos" of the camp, shelters set up by Abbé Pierre to shelter homeless families after the winter of 1954\.
