In July 2021, the Centre des monuments nationaux, the Association de Mise en Valeur du Château de Coucy (AMVCC) and the Aisne Department launched a new three-year excavation campaign in Coucy. A new survey has been carried out at the foot of one of the towers of the Poultry Court, raising new knowledge about the origins of the fortress of Enguerrand III. Preview the findings of the 2022 campaign.

Put at the top of a calcareous spur, the castle of Coucy is protected by three successive levels of defence: that of the city, of the poultry-yard and finally, of the very castle. Edifié by Enguerrand III de Coucy at the beginning of the XIIIth century s. and dismantled by Mazarin in 1652\. Ruins, studied and strengthened by Viollet-le-Duc in the XIXth century s., live(remain) grandiose although seriously mutilated (destruction of four tours(towers,ballots) and of donjon) by the German army in 1917\.
