visit and demonstrations at the museum of hosiery in Moreuil
Some enthusiasts in particular Luc Sonntag, Yves Camus and Jacky Hordé, did not want the memory of the textile industry, which made our region rich, to disappear. Their goal is to recover and restore machines of all times.
The collection was first housed in a private home in 2008 in Méharicourt. It then moved, in 2010, at the initiative of the Municipality of Moreuil to the former Bomo factory, rue de la Filature. The installation could not be sustainable because of safety problems, in particular the lifts, the buildings being located on a marshy area near the Avre.
In 2018, new premises were put at the disposal of the Association Mémoire du Santerre, which manages and maintains the trades and sewing machines. The symbolism of the place, rue du Général Leclerc Maréchal de France, is strong, since the Museum is located in the workshops of the Bouly factory in Moreuil since 1830.
In a vast room, are gathered:
- sewing machines from the oldest to the newest;
- circular sock looms;
- remailers;
- knitting machines;
- a winder….
as well as two badestamier looms dating from the beginning of the 19th century.
In an adjoining room, objects and advertisements relating to the textile industry are gathered. You want to visit this place of memory, contact us!
