The village of Paars is located in a valley of the Vesle valley, on the southern slope of the plateau that separates it from the Aisne. From the Middle Ages until the end of the Ancien Régime, the current commune was divided into two large feudal territories.
Since at least the beginning of the 17th century, most of the territory was under the priory of Coincy which was also the major decimator of the parish, that is to say the main beneficiary of the tax in kind paid to the Church. Witnesses of this ecclesiastical power, the farm of the Seigneury and the old barn with tithes still stand in the village.
The western part of the village, called the "Prompt de Paars", formed the fief dependent on the neighbouring seigneury of Courcelles. This domain became a seigneury in its own right in the middle of the eighteenth century and the castle was built shortly afterwards.
