The Renaissance bell tower of Espace Saint-Pierre
The old church of Saint-Pierre is a major building of the city of Senlis as well as the cathedral. During its nine centuries of existence, the church has experienced many campaigns of work thanks to the development and prosperity of the city. It was one of the most important parishes of the city in the Middle Ages. The result of a turbulent history, the building was desecrated during the revolutionary period. The building has varied and sometimes surprising uses in the 19th and 20th centuries. In 2009, the City of Senlis undertook a complete renovation of the building. The site, now "Espace Saint-Pierre" has been welcoming the public again since January 2017. The old Saint-Pierre church has two bell towers, the original bell tower remodeled in the thirteenth century with its typical octagonal spire and a bell tower. This second tower of the sixteenth century rises to almost 47 meters in height!
Exceptionally this year, the City of Senlis invites you to go up to the second floor of the building’s Renaissance bell tower to (re)discover the city and its environment.
