Norbert BARDIN

Attracted by the symbolism of trees, Norbert BARDIN tells us: "I feel them not as foreign beings, but as storytellers from the night of time...". His artistic approach consists in revealing the particularity of each of them, to enter into symbiosis with our "hardwood brothers" to better magnify them. They are the jewels of our natural heritage and deserve to be respected, protected and pampered like our most beautiful monuments. He calls for respect for these plant structures.

Jewel of Gothic architecture of the thirteenth century Hugues de Pierrefonds, bishop of Soissons, founded in 1090 the Augustinian Abbey of Essômes, which prospers. The church reserved for canons was built between 1225 and 1245\. During the Hundred Years' War, the Fortified Abbey resisted the English who raised the siege on the day of Saint Ferréol. The canons then took this saint as patron saint of their church. The last regular abbot, Claude Guillard, carried out major works from 1540 to 1548\. Especially rema- quables: the 38 beautiful carved stalls of the choir. Although 6 bays were cut in 1765, the Abbey Church bears witness to the splendour of 13th-century Gothic architecture.
