Conference "Making history with animals" by Vinciane Despret
Since September 2021, Opera Mundi has been offering, at the invitation of the Frac Picardie Hauts-de-France, a series of multidisciplinary meetings around the notions of "landscapes of life". These times of meetings, debates and original conferences are developed in the company of thinkers, researchers and artists, who invite us to put in perspective the environmental change and its effects, both local and global.
Vinciane Despret develops an abundant and very acute thought on what binds us to the living, and counts today as one of the central figures of global ecological thought.
Philosopher of science and psychologist, professor at the University of Liège and the Free University of Brussels, she specialized in ethology – the study of animal behaviour – and anthropology.
Whether it is through the study of our relationship to animal life as knowledge practices among scientists, it links these two disciplines to try to identify the «political consequences of our theoretical approaches».
Intellectual of the year of the Pompidou Centre in Paris in 2021, curator of the exhibition Bêtes et hommes at the Cité des Sciences de La Villette in Paris, his work has been several times distinguished and is internationally recognized.
At the end of the conference we invite you to join us at Île aux Fagots. We will discuss ecological and environmental issues.
Over a free drink, this time is that of a friendly and sonorized discussion with the speaker.
