This pink sandstone church in neo-Gothic style, built between 1896 and 1900, bears witness to the Christian architectural revival in a typical style, has an essential role in the development of this working-class district of Colmar, due to a strong industrialization. The construction of this church in the western perimeter of the city is built according to the plans of the renowned architect Charles Winckler, nicknamed «Viollet-le-Duc Alsacien». A heterogeneity of style confers to the church Saint-Joseph a majestic architecture.
The interior of the church offers us an extraordinary panorama of the know-how and ideas of the builders of the time. The Klem workshops, as well as the stained glass windows of the Zettler House in Munich, offer a real artistic treasure. The side altars, the unique Way of the Cross in Colmar, as well as the icon of the Virgin with the Child, challenge visitors throughout the visit.
