Chapelle Mémorial Orthodoxe Russe
51600 Saint-Hilaire-le-Grand
The Association of Russian Veterans Officers on the French Front (became in 1990 Association of Remembrance of the Russian Expeditionary Force in France 1916-1918) decided to build in the 1930s an orthodox chapel dedicated to the Resurrection of Christ the Savior, in memory of the Russian fighters who fell in France. This church is built in a style inspired by the 15th century called Novgorod-Pskov, by Alexander Alexandrovich Benois, Russian architect and painter born in Saint Petersburg in 1888\. At its consecration in April 1937, the church was officially dedicated to the memory of Russian soldiers who died for France on the French and Salonika fronts.
