This self-guided tour will allow you to discover some spaces (reading room and its woodwork) and some collections (ancient and contemporary) of one of Nancy’s oldest cultural institutions.

By decree of 28 December 1750, Stanislas Leszczynski, King of Poland and Duke of Lorraine and Bar, established a public library in Nancy and constituted a college of censors whose mission was to select the books of the library and to award prizes, to encourage the practice of Sciences, Arts and Belles Lettres de Lorraine.
On December 27, 1751, an edict of Stanislas conferred a status on the «Royal Society of Sciences and Belles Lettres de Nancy» which would later be called «d'Académie de Stanislas». Stanislas’s spirit, which was that of the Enlightenment, continued to reign in the Academy throughout its history.
It comprises 36 full members and an indefinite number of local corresponding partners, residing in or near Nancy. It is also composed of national correspondents and international correspondents.
