The Germans built from the beginning of the World War I an important position strengthened between Strasbourg and the fort of Mutzig "Feste Kaiser Wilhelm II": the Position of Bruche. The crest of Dangolsheim / Soultz-les-Bains establishes(constitutes) an important link. From August, 1914 till April, 1916, a robust defensive position was done up on this hill to counter any enemy offensive by the with a hole of Saverne towards Strasbourg. These works are still visible.
