Discover an exhibition about the history of the city and the evolutions it has experienced following the geostrategic interest of the Sun King for the latter.

In this 17th century, Europe is alive and well. While the Thirty Years' War ravaged many provinces, France reworked its land borders against Spain at that time which encircled the country.
Thionville, like Montmédy or Luxembourg, were fortresses in the Spanish Netherlands.
Louis XIV regained control of the city’s destiny: if it lost its administrative prerogative, it gained military power.
Once on the left bank of the Moselle, Thionville soon took its marks on the right bank by building a covered bridge. It is now a French border city coveted by neighbouring empires and countries.
Its fortifications were soon doubled and the successor of the Sun King, Louis XV, increased the size of the city.
