Grande Carrière
32 Chemin de Gonfontaine, 55200 Euville
An exhibition on 600 m2 presents, in the size workshop of the Grande Carrière in Euville, the history of these fifty years that made the influence of the city.
It shows the importance of this career through the exploitation of stone in the Commercy basin, but also the human aspect of the work, the evolution of techniques and also the social life that it has been able to generate. The stone of the quarries of Euville, exploited in 2nd part of the nineteenth century and early twentieth, was chosen to build the foundations of the greatest monuments such as:
* Stanislas Square in Nancy, a UNESCO World Heritage Site
* the Palais Garnier,
* the entablature of the Pont-Neuf,
* the Louvre Museum,
* Paris-Est train station in Paris
* the Royal Palace Laeken,
* the Fontaine de la place Brouckère in Brussels...
