Château
1 rue du château, 88170 Sandaucourt
Early Renaissance pleasure castle with four round turrets of defense and fire mouths protecting the access. Updated after the Thirty Years' War: filling of the moat, enlargement of the windows, creation of a new staircase and two symmetrical pavilions...
This castle of ladies has often been inherited from mother to daughter. A beautiful corridor with original black and white pavement leads visitors to the various reception rooms: music room, games room, office… One room kept its huge Renaissance fireplace, others received more classic decorations with small 18th century chimneys and woodwork. A charming oratory is located in one of the towers, a small boudoir in another. A magnificent staircase leads upstairs.
The chapel with its monolithic columns presents a museum of priestly vestments that recall the pomp of ceremonies celebrated before Vatican II.
