Bibliothèque bénédictine
8 Rue du Palais de Justice, 55300 Saint-Mihiel
The Benedictine library (1775) includes 9,000 books, including 74 manuscripts, 86 incunabula and nearly 6,000 works bearing the manuscript ex libris of the Benedictine abbey of Saint-Mihiel.
For two centuries, the library has been presented as follows: two rooms, 5 meters high, the first square, remarkable for its richly decorated plaster ceiling, representing the four seasons, the four elements and four of the five continents, and its carved oak panelling of the eighteenth century; the second, fifty meters long and illuminated by 17 windows, more sober, whose ceiling and woodwork were meticulously restored after the war of 1914-1918 which had severely damaged them.
