The Municipal Archives of Nancy exceptionally open the doors of their stores: we will introduce you to the profession of archivist and the treasures preserved by the service.

On the program: you can participate in guided tours «Immersion in the heart of the history of the city».
Through contact with historical sources, the public will understand how the memory of a city and its inhabitants is constituted. The profession of archivist and the missions of a public archives service will be presented.
The visit lasts 1h.

At the end of the 1960s, the archives were transferred to the current building, which is the former shoe factory Spire & Coblentz, dating back to the beginning of the 20th century.
The plant was established in a neighborhood that was becoming highly industrialized at the time, due to new means of communication, namely the canal and the belt railway. It stops its activity in 1935 but the building still bears traces of industrial architecture (glass roof, cast iron poles, fireplace, facade ...).
Today, the memory of the city and the treasures of archives are preserved there.
