Free visit of the castle of Châteaudun

Discover the residence of a faithful comrade-in-arms of Joan of Arc.
Jean de Dunois, known as the "bastard of Orléans", half-brother of Duke Charles d'Orléans, made the old medieval castle a comfortable and clear home and added a Sainte-Chapelle. His grandson François II of Orléans-Longueville enlarged the castle with a wing with Renaissance decor announcing the great castles of the Loire valley.
Work began around 1450 and ended around 1520.

Between Tours(Towers) and Chartres, in boundaries of the plain of Beauce and at the edge of the valley of the Loir(Dormouse), built on a rocky spur, the princely castle of Jehan de Dunois, thought «the illegitimate child of Orléans» and companion(journeyman) of Jeanne d'Arc, offers to the visitors a real journey in time. Overhanging the Loir(Dormouse) of more than 60 metres, one (Re) will discover a succession of elements of medieval, Gothic architecture and Renaissance of an exceptional authenticity and of gardens inviting in dawdling.
