The renewed painting

Coming from the CoBrA and Abstraction lyrique movements, the artists exhibited renew painting, through experimentation but also the work of colors and matter. The spontaneity of the gesture moves them away from traditional academicism, to leave room for emotion and imagination.
The works on display come from the museum’s collections, including the Zao Wou-Ki donation and the Pons workshop collection. These acquisitions, in 2015 and 2011, have greatly enriched the collections and now allow the talent of these avant-garde artists to shine.
Artists exhibited: Pierre Alechinsky, Karel Appel, Christine Boumeester, Corneille, Jacques Doucet, Jean Dubuffet, Johann Fruhmann, Asger Jorn, Paul Klee, Fay Lansner, Alfred Manessier, Henri Michaux, Joan Mitchell, Mario Prassinos, Jean Raine, Jean-Paul Riopelle, Walasse Ting, Maria Helena Vieira da Silva, Wols, Zao Wou-Ki.
