The Château du Bouchet in Brenne, which has retained its aspect of medieval fortress, despite important transformations carried out in the seventeenth century, stands on the highest hill of the Brenne overlooking the large pond of the Red Sea. The offered panorama of the terrace or dungeon extends up to 80 km around. The oldest part of the castle the north tower dates from the twelfth century. The large keep of which the traces of the drawbridge still remain, dates from the fourteenth century while the small keep was built by the English in the fifteenth century during the Hundred Years War. After being occupied by different local families, the castle was acquired by the Rochechouart family of Mortemart in the sixteenth century which carried out transformations of the fortress into a residence of resort in the seventeenth century. One of the owners, Gabriel de Rochechouart, was the father of the famous Marquise de Montespan who would have made some stays at the Bouchet. In 1808, Victor
