Visit of the former penal colony of Mettray
As early as 1839, when Frédéric-Auguste Demetz created the penal agricultural colony, the «Paternal Society» put forward innovative and humanistic values, which led in 1853 to its recognition of public utility (RUP). The colony will be closed in 1937 as the settlements of this type, by government decision. Societal developments have allowed the association La Paternelle to evolve. At its reopening, in the new medical-social field «LA PATERNELLE» will create and manage a medical-social institution of type Institut Médico-Professionnel – IMPRO (1957), become Institut Rééducation Médico-Professionnel – IRMPro in 1996, before being approved in 2008 as Educational and Pedagogical Therapeutic Institute – ITEP and Special Education and Home Care Service – SESSAD, to host in the “Youth Village” adolescents and young adults with relationship and behavioural disorders
