This church is called St Peter, one of the twelve apostles of Christ and the first pope. Saint-Pierre-ès-liens commemorates the liberation of Saint Peter by an angel, who came to break his chains in the prison of Carceri (Rome), during the first Christian persecutions in Rome, this feast is celebrated on August 1 (day of the patronal feast of the church of Chédigny. The current choir of the Church of St.Peter can be dated from the first third of the twelfth century and on a keystone one already distinguishes the word: St.Peter and his keys, symbolizing the keys of the Church and the keys of Paradise. The later transept of the fourteenth century and vaulted only in 1888 as indicated by an inscription at the western entrance of the chapel of the Virgin and the nave probably rebuilt in the sixteenth century at the same time as the main facade.
