While our collections are mainly concerned with the golden age of postcards, our museum also values those who use postcards as support. The opportunity to discover the illustrator Geo-Fourrier.

The exhibition «Geo-Fourrier, between Japan and Brittany» shows the work of this protean artist, his representation of Brittany but also of other French provinces, Morocco and Africa through the collections of the museum but also works from private collections. Born on 16 June 1898 in Lyon and died on 8 April 1966 in Quimper where he settled in the 1920s, Geo-Fourrier is a painter, illustrator and engraver who collaborates in the creation of jewellery, pipes, earthenware and the edition of postcards. Very early on, he began to take an interest in the arts of Japan and studied the works of Utamaro and Hokusai. This interest for the Orient, will influence the whole of his work as well by the composition of his prints as the techniques used. At the Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 1921, he met artists such as Mathurin Méheut, Jean-Julien Lemordant and writers such as Anatole Le Braz and Charles le Goffic. Throughout his life, Geo-Fourrier, will work with Breton materials, his drawings and postcards represent portraits but also men and women at work.
