Château de Brancion

Perched on a rocky spur, Brancion welcomes you and takes you to the discovery of dreamt Middle Ages: donjon of the Fortified castle dominating the village and Romance church, the exceptional panoramas and dawdling in an entirely pedestrianized site. Fitted tightly round in a green setting, the Castle is a place where the time(weather) seems to have stopped. Established by the Lords of Brancion between the Xth century and the XIIth century and idealised by the dukes of Bourgogne in the XIVth century, the Castle dominates proudly the valley of Grosne. You will discover by walking of outside(terrace) terrace three types of castrales architectures: the ruins of the home of the Year ten hundred, one of the rare known examples in France of big(great) manorial room, the manorial Castle of the XIIth and XIIIth centuries with the home of Beaufort and its defensive towers, the tower of the Treasury and the high donjon of 23 m which offers an exceptional panorama and the ducal Castle of the XIVth century with the remarkable home of Beaujeu among which the splendid trilobées bays(berries) and the monumental fireplaces manifest the past size(greatness). You will pursue your discovery by the village, the hall(market) of the traders and the church Saint-Peter, Romanic building of the XIIth century, adorned with wall paintings(paints) realised at the end of the XIIIth century. The association Medieval Memory will be happy to welcome you in this site steeped in history.
