Guided tour of the castle of Saint-Point - House of Alphonse de Lamartine

Saint-Point, castle of the 12th and 14th centuries, classified Historical Monument and House of Illustres, became from 1820 the family home of the poet and politician Alphonse de Lamartine.

The visit to the Château de Saint-Point includes Alphonse de Lamartine’s bedroom and work room, furnished as they were at the time, the 18th-century dining room and the Lamartine Museum gathering the poet’s personal objects and souvenirs.
On the occasion of the Heritage Days, two additional pieces will be added to the guided tour: the Gothic Revival Room and the old room of Marianne de Lamartine, listed as Historical Monuments.

Saint-Point, castle of the twelfth and fourteenth century, classified Historical Monument and House of the Illustres, becomes from 1820 the family home of the poet and politician Alphonse de Lamartine.
Considered the father of Romanticism in literature, he was also one of the founders of the Second Republic and contributed to the abolition of slavery, the political death penalty and the establishment of universal suffrage.
He received the castle of Saint-Point in advance of hoirie, during his marriage with an English aristocrat, Mary-Ann Birch, and undertook to restore it in the Anglo-Saxon Gothic style, discovered during a trip to England. Lamartine built a quadrilobée gallery, a gothic porch and landscaped English gardens.
