Old(Former) Community arts centre built in 1971 by the architect Daniel Petit, the Space of Arts is a numerous place: theatre, dance, music, circus(cirque) bloom there entirely. But it is also a peculiar building(ship) in the city, recently renovated, with its contemporary architecture mixing(involving) concrete and glass. Visits of wings and public spaces will be proposed by a guide lecturer of Artistic and Historical Towns and Areas and a professional of the Space of Arts.

The creation of this equipment is the result(profit) of the voluntarist politics(policy) of André Malraux, at the beginning of 1960s, ambition of which was to open community arts centres in all departments. That of Chalon was inaugurated in 1971\. The project, delivered by the architect Daniel Petit, joined a big(great) operation of urban renovation. The challenge, raised(found) successfully, was to assert(affirm) the legibility of an at once ambitious and complex programme thanks to a combination(overall) of spaces intelligently ranked according to functions(offices) and uses(practices) well differentiated. Architecture presents a particular(special) born strength of the contrast between the inside and the outside(exterior): the definite(formal) brutalisme of facades, the employment(use) of the concrete and the presence of a powerful porte-à-faux oppose the internal refinement mixing(involving) the learnt interlocking of spaces, the presence of a convivial patio, in ceramic decoration(set) and glass walls.
