The XIXth beginning the kingdom of Sardinia decides on the construction of a series of defensive works on the site of Esseillon, in Haute-Maurienne to protect itself of a possible French attack. The set(group) was built between 1819 and 1834 by Piedmontese entrepreneurs(contractors) and contains 4 forts and one redoubt. Marie-Thérèse La Redoute, finished(ended) in 1825 checked(controlled) the road of Mont-Cenis.
