A village founded in the Middle Ages, Cluses was destroyed in 1844 by a violent fire. However, the city centre retains some evidence of its rich past, especially with its religious buildings. Rebuilt in 1845, the city also offers a fine example of 19th and 20th century urban architecture. The signs of the city’s industrial, tricentenary vocation are omnipresent.
