Guided tour of the timber-framed house of Neuglize, "The old castle"
Wooden house of Neuglize, known as the "Old Castle"
Neuglize en Sologne bourbonnaise, was a village and parish before being absorbed into the Revolution by the neighbouring municipalities of Bessay, Neuilly Le Réal and Gouise.
In the centre of the old village and parish, stands a house with wooden sides, called the "Old Castle", built at the end of the sixteenth century, opposite the parish church now disappeared. This building of great architectural quality, was the residence of a notable, noble or bourgeois, in charge of the temporal administration of the parish. Built with local materials, clay, lime, oak, the house is integrated into the surrounding nature.
The "Old Castle" of Neuglize, a building classified as a Historical Monument in 1988, is destined to become a place of exhibitions and a cultural center after the restoration work.
The owner of the site and the Association "Renaissance de Neuglize en Bourbonnais" are working to give a future to this element of Bourbonnais heritage and share it with future generations, with art as a common thread. The tour is guided and commented by the owner of the place and the President of the association.
