The Church of La Monta, in neo-Gothic style, replaces in the nineteenth century a medieval building whose some elements are preserved in the choir. It is dedicated to Saint Agripan or Saint Agrève, who gave his name to the commune.
Around 1050, Hugues, bishop of Grenoble, ordered the construction of a church at La Monta that he endowed with the relics of Saint Agripan, bishop of Puy-en-Velay in the seventh century. Known to cure gout and rheumatism, these relics attracted pilgrims throughout the Middle Ages and then disappeared during the Revolution.
Until the 17th century, the church was under the control of the Priory of Saint-Robert-de-Corllon. It is the prior who appoints the parish priest and he is indebted to him for many obligations, sometimes considered very heavy. This difficult cohabitation echoes the rivalries that opposed the bishops of Grenoble and the Dauphins in the Middle Ages, whose first representatives were buried in the priory of Saint-Robert.
