Cathédrale Saint-Jean-Baptiste
Place de la cathédrale, 73300 Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne
- Savoie
- Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes
This 11th century tower was the bell tower of the Notre-Dame church. In the 15th century a gallery flanked by four bells and a large spire had raised the height to almost 80 meters. This part was shot down by the French revolutionaries in 1794, destroying at the same time a part of the church Notre-Dame now separated from its bell tower by a street. The tear mark is clearly visible on the east side of the bell tower. Its condition does not allow it to be opened to the public on a daily basis
