The priory of Contamine, necropolis of the Sires of Faucigny, Clunisian site, was founded in 1083 by Guy de Faucigny, bishop of Geneva. It was then occupied by Benedictine monks of the Order of Cluny. It is in the wake of Pierre II of Savoy, in the thirteenth century that many Savoyards travel to England and Wales. From these exchanges we remain the church of the priory, called church Sainte-Foy built by the architect Jacques de Saint-Georges, where elements of English architecture are applied for the first time in Savoy. This church has a very special character. The windows are rectangular in shape; their twin-framed windows and liners are housed under a lintel itself under a low arch that serves as a discharge arch. All these elements of English military architecture were then applied to the church of Contamine for the first and last time in our region.
