A last opportunity not to be missed to discover and admire this remarkable selection of original lapidary works, rare or even unpublished, usually kept in public repositories and private collections. Placed in their archaeological context, these remarkable stone sculptures, ancient and medieval, renew the image of the territory of the Combrailles in which they are inscribed.
Among the works exhibited:
- Gallo-Roman dolphin-fountain of Prondines, loaned by the State; it is a particularly original work, probable variant of the local corpus of lionnes-fontaines; - Gallo-Roman colonnette of Lastic, given to the museum on this occasion by a private individual; monolith and intact, only a few rare examples are known in France; - Gallo-Roman capital of Messeix, loaned by a private individual; it attests to the penetration of the modes of decoration, which are not reserved for the chief places, in rural areas and in the confines; - cross-stele of Saint-Étienne-des-Champs, deposited in the museum by the municipality; one of the oldest crosses of Auvergne, dated from the Middle Ages at the latest; - Medieval resting place of the collegiate church of Herment, loaned to the museum by the municipality; a unique copy in Auvergne, inspired by Limousin know-how.
