One of only three survivors of the 19th and 20th century cable cars, along with those of the Capucin at Mont Dore and Besançon.
Intended for the transport of customers of the Société des Eaux and the Société des Hôtels d'Évian during the season, the electric-powered funicular was put into operation in 1907. He then served the Cachat Spring and the Splendid and Royal Hotels.
Between October 1911 and May 1913, the line was extended up to the level of the terrace of the Hermitage, then to the quay where it served, by a tunnel (140m long), the new thermal establishment inaugurated in 1902 (present-day Palais Lumière).
The historic funicular runs daily from mid-May to mid-September.
