Musée alpin de Chamonix
89, avenue Michel Croz, 74400 Chamonix-Mont-Blanc
- Haute-Savoie
- Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes
Housed in the former Chamonix-Palace, the Alpine Museum traces about two centuries of life in the Chamonix valley, from the first trips to the «Glacières de Savoye» to the creation of a winter season. Furniture, objects, prints, paintings, posters allow to apprehend several facets of the local history: mountaineering, winter sports, tourism, scientific conquest and agro-pastoralism. In a renovated space, you will discover an important collection of prints that attest to the city’s development, but also photographs, relief plans, crystals, ancient objects, costumes and everything that constitutes the memory of the valley: the conquest of Mont Blanc and the first famous ascents, the creation of the company of guides of Chamonix, the observatories of Mont Blanc with the reconstitution of the Chinese salon of Joseph Vallot.
