During this demonstration, the creole company Moyne and the creole association ARRC will show you and explain how to lay the lauzes and cut the stones. The ARRC (Association pour la Restauration des Remparts de Crémieu) is a social and solidarity association. It helps people to integrate into the professional world. This association carries out many projects in Crémieu in order to preserve our ramparts, witnesses so important of the medieval past of our city. In addition, lauzes and stones are an important part of our heritage. Lauzes are typical local stones and are the roof of one of our most famous monuments: the Halle. As for the stones, a large part of our walls are built with these dry stones. They thus participate in the heritage identity of our municipality. Come admire the work of these professionals who will share their ancestral know-how.
Free demonstration. Saturday 17 September from 2pm to 4pm and Sunday 18 September from 10am to 12pm and from 2pm to 4pm. The territory of Isle-Crémieu has a wide variety of landscapes combining woods, ponds, rivers in the plains and high cliffs. The architecture of limestone and slate roofs (roofs in Isle-Crémieu) remains a striking feature of the landscape. Crémieu distinguished itself from the twelfth century with the installation of a priory of Benedictines at the top of the cliffs of Saint-Hippolyte and a castle on the hill Saint-Laurent. The city developed between the two hills. Dauphinoise since 1282 and bordering the Savoy, it plays an important military role and enjoys important commercial privileges. It was at the centre of the grain trade and entered Savoy, France, Italy and Switzerland. The installation of the Convent of the Augustinians and of a workshop for the minting of money marked a period of prosperity that lasted two centuries.
