The House Ligier Richier, located 7 rue Haute des Fosses in Saint-Mihiel is considered as the one acquired by the sculptor sammiellois Ligier Richier in 1535\. He lived there until 1564, when he left for Geneva.
During the restoration work begun in 2012, the discovery of doorways walled with the terraced house (n°5 rue Haute des Fosses) tends to establish that the current house called Ligier Richier was probably the «beautiful room» a larger dwelling at the time of the Renaissance.
Today the ceiling (approx. 50 m²) consists of massive beams and trilobed beams in oak, and coffers with pendants and terracotta spacers made from moulds.
The fleuron decoration of the coffers is inspired by Roman antiquity: a stylistic comparison can be made with the decoration motifs of the cuirass of the centurion and the tomb of the Sepulchre (Saint-Etienne church in Saint-Mihiel).
