The origin of the University of Salamanca dates back to the Cathedral Schools and it was during the reign of Alfonso X that it was transformed into a University. The king issued his first ordinances, endowing it with his first stable chairs, such as that of music, and creating the office of librarian; it was the first university in Europe which took this name and which owned a library. In 2018, she turned 800.
The city of Salamanca was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988.
