St-André-en-Royans has kept the archaeological traces of its past. it has the particularity of being grouped around a castle of the twelfth century. The church of the late seventeenth has a wooden coffered ceiling painted in trompe-l'oeil, protected by the titles of the Historical Monuments. This village was the stronghold of two illustrious families, the Prunier de Saint-André and the De Lionne, of which Hughes was minister of Louis XIV.

The village of Saint-André-en-Royans kept(guarded) the archaeological tracks of its past. He(It) has feature supporting(maintaining) to be put together around a castle of the XIIth century. The church of the end of the XVIIth century possesses a ceiling protected in conformance with(for) Historic monuments. This ceiling, wooden painted and in boxes, is decorated trompe l'oeil(window-dressing) above the chorus(choir). It emanates from this one a particular(special) symbolism. On walls, decorations(sets) in gypseries, pilasters, bows(arcs) and niches testify a past big(great) wealth. This church possessed one "litre", manorial, internal and external funeral band(strip). Only tracks of coats of arms on external litre remain(subsist) in the North. His(Her,Its) bell tower-wall, in three arcades, is particular(special) for the region. A patrimonial play route(course) underlines and plays with the still very visible(obvious) tracks of historic past. This village, in past mixed(involved) always with the history(story) of Dauphiné («Transport of Dauphiné in the Kingdom of France», Hundred Years' War, Wars of Religion), was the fief of several famous families, counts d' Albon, Bérenger, Bérenger-Sassenage, Clermont, Plum tree of Saint-André and of Lioness of whom Hughes, big(great) Secretary of Louis XIV
