Having built from 1050 by the abbey Benedictine of Aurillac, the church Saint-Peter of Varen is typical of churches of pélerinage by its proportions and its plan. Indoors, the exceptional capitals(big tops) are around the altar and on the walls of the bedhead (behind the altar). It is possible to find vestiges of a small parish church built for the peasant community against the wall the North of the church. Abutments come supplemented this impressive building, in order to contrebuter the nave of the church, after the fire of the cloister.
